The Planning Department handles all land use, parks, planning and zoning issues in the City.
The Planning Department handles development permit and development variance permit applications, as well as rezoning and Official Community Plan Amendment applications, temporary use permit applications, Agricultural Land and Forest Land Reserve applications, and strata-title conversions. The Department is also responsible for planning, designing, and developing Langford's parks and trail system.

- City Planner: As City Planner, Matthew is the director of the Planning Department, and is responsible for all aspects of planning in Langford. Matthew represents the City of Langford on planning matters with other jurisdictions, prepares plans and reviews, analysis and reporting of development applications. He works closely with the Park Department in planning for parks and the implementation of the Trails Master Plan in Langford. Matthew continues to assist in the processing of some rezoning, development permit, development variance permit and OCP amendment applications and is available to answer questions about future development potential and zoning of land within the City of Langford. Mathew has been with the City of Langford Planning Department since 1997, and is able to offer a wide range of knowledge in regards to historical land use patterns and land use decisions. - Senior Planner: Leanne is a member of Langford's planning team and she is responsible for processing rezoning applications, Official Community Plan amendments, development permits and development variance permits. - Planner 1: Iain grew up in the West Shore and is proud to be a part of the ongoing transformation of the community. He shares the responsibilities of day-to-day planning tasks such as reviewing rezoning and development permit applications with his colleagues, and is also involved in several long-term planning initiates. Iain is a good person to ask questions about the City’s Public Art, Wayfinding, and Agricultural Strategies in addition to general planning issues. (250) 474-6919

She is also available to answer planning related questions regarding environmentally sensitive development permit areas, future development potential and zoning of land within the City of Langford.
