Who can apply for the Home Owner Grant?

BASIC GRANT

  • Applicant under 65 years of age.
  • If the current year tax is less than $920, the basic home owner grant is the amount of the current year taxes less $350. If the current year tax is $920 or more, the basic home owner grant is $570.
  • The minimum tax payment required from applicants under 65 is $350.

ADDITIONAL GRANT

  • Applicant 65 years of age or older or in receipt of prescribed war veterans or disability allowances, or persons with disabilities as defined under the regulations.
  • If the current year tax is less than $945, the basic home owner grant, inclusive of the additional grant, is the amount of the current year tax less $100.
  • If the current year tax is $945 or more, the basic home owner grant, inclusive of the additional grant is $845.
  • The minimum tax payment required from applicants under this heading is $100.
  • Assessed values above $1,285,000.
  • Above $1,285,000. of residential assessed value, the grant will be reduced on a graduated scale. That is, the grant otherwise payable is to be reduced by $5 for every $1000 of residential assessed value in excess of $1,285,000.

Deadlines

Home owner grants unclaimed by penalty date (July 3rd, 2012) are considered as unpaid taxes and penalized accordingly.  (see the reverse of your Tax Notice for more information).  December 28th, 2012 is the last day that you can claim your 2012 Home Owner Grants online, however grants can be claimed in person at City Hall until December 31st, 2012.

Who CAN and CANNOT claim their grant Online?

This Online Home Owner Grant Application is only available to home owners of properties within the City of Langford. You will need your tax notice which includes your Folio Number and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

If you are claiming additional grants under the disabilities section (paragraphs 2(c) or 2(d) in the Home Owner Grant Application form) you might not be able to use this Online Home Owner Grant Application System.

  • If you have applied for these additional grants with the City of Langford last year then we will have your information on file and we will accept your application through this Online Application System. You can fill out this Online Application form (click the link at the top of this article) and check either one of the disabilities additional grant options.
  • If you have not applied for these additional grants (paragraphs 2(c) or 2(d)) last year, we will not have your information on file. You will need to submit your application for the home owner grant in person at the Langford City Hall (877 Goldstream Ave.) or mail your application with your additional information to the address below.
  • If you have been claiming the disabilities grant since before 1993, we may not have your information on file. Please contact us at the address below and we will amend our records.
