Engineering
Langford's Engineering Department serves your needs in several key aspects of community building: land subdivision and development; construction activities related to subdivision and public infrastructure; public works such as road maintenance and repairs, and the City of Langford's ongoing beautification efforts.
The Engineering Department is also responsible for operating Langford's successful Trolley public transportation program.
The Engineering Department is organized into three areas: Land Development, Construction, and Public Works. Staff liaise with local counterparts at BC Transit, School District #62 (Sooke), and CRD Water all to ensure the best services possible for the City. Engineering also coordinates with West Shore Environmental Services Inc., a division of Corix Utilities, who are responsible for sewer collections systems within the City of Langford.
Our seventeen-person staff is overseen by the City Engineer. The City Engineer is also the Approving Officer for matters related to land development and subdivision. The Approving Officer acts independent of Council.
Two City bylaws in particular govern Engineering staff's ability to direct land use in the City of Langford: Bylaw 1000, Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw [PDF - 6.8 MB] and Bylaw 33, the Traffic Bylaw [PDF - 183 KB].
Most of our staff have a long history with the City of Langford as employees and residents and are happy to answer your day-to-day enquiries either at the City Hall Engineering counter or by phone.
