Open Fires, Campfires, or Fireworks

Fires not authorized by the Burn Bylaw [PDF - 83 KB] and fireworks discharges contrary to the Fireworks Bylaw [PDF - 357 KB] pose a public safety risk. Open fires to dispose of yard waste are authorized during daylight hours on the first consecutive Friday and Saturday of each month October through April. When the first weekend contains a statutory holiday burning is moved to the next Fri/Sat. Every precaution must be taken to prevent smoke from becoming a nuisance; keep yard waste dry and induct air into the fire base as able. Garbage and construction debris cannot be burned.

Campfires no larger than 2'x2' fuelled by clean firewood only are permitted until 1 am on any day except during a fire ban; however, residents must first call Langford Fire Dispatch at (250) 478-9555 to provide an address and receive instruction.

Fireworks sales are now banned everywhere in the region, and in all Westshore communities discharges of consumer ("family fireworks") are allowed only under permit on October 31 between 5 and 10 pm. Call Langford City Hall for permit and annual Fireworks Safety Course information at (250) 478-7882.
