Winter Road and Sidewalk Conditions
Roadways and sidewalks can get very icy in the City of Langford. Please use this information to take winter transportation precautions.
Roads
Please avoid driving during winter conditions and use alternate transportation such as the City of Langford's Trolley or other transit options. We strongly recommend not driving during extreme winter weather.
If you must drive, follow basic snowfall and icing condition driving principles. Ensure that you have good winter tires, carry tire chains, lower your speed and keep a safe distance from others.
Snow Clearing
Roads are cleared according to priority in the following order:
- Major Roads
- Steep Hills
- Collectors, School and Playground Zones
- Local Roads - lowest priority
During prolonged or heavy snowfall, crews may need to continue to maintain the higher priority roads before attempting to clear those of lower priority.
Parking
In order to ensure that snow clearing equipment can navigate the streets safely, do not park on the roadway.
If street parking is unavoidable, park on the EVEN ADDRESSED side of the road only.
Your road may not be cleared if the snow plough cannot pass.
Sidewalks
It is the property owners' responsibility to clear snow and ice from sidewalks and footpaths adjacent to their property.
Please arrange for help in advance if you are away from home or unable to shovel snow and ice. If your neighbour or someone you know needs assistance please volunteer.
