Mayor & Council

The City of Langford is proud to have strong, visionary leadership in its elected representatives. The Mayor and Council are equally as proud of their thriving community.

Stewart Young grew up and attended school in Langford and is now a local business owner. Mayor Young was a Councillor when Langford was first incorporated in 1992. Mayor Young was elected Mayor in December 1993, and has been declared Mayor in the following seven elections.

Denise Blackwell

Denise Blackwell is a long-time resident of Langford. She has been a City of Langford Councillor since incorporation in 1992. Councillor Blackwell is the Chair of the Planning and Zoning and Affordable Housing Committee. Councillor Blackwell is Langford's representative on the Capital Regional District Board as Vice Chair as well as the following other CRD appointments: Capital Regional Hospital District Board (Chair), the CRD Core Area Liquid Waste Management Committee (Chair), the CRD Committee of the Whole (Vice Chair), the Finance and Corporate Services Committee and the Transportation Select Committee. Councillor Blackwell will be Acting Mayor for the City from January 1st 2012 to June 30th, 2012.

Matt Sahlstrom

was born in Victoria and has been a resident of Langford since 1969. Elected to the Langford City Council in November of 2002, Councillor Sahlstrom chairs the Administration & Finance Standing Committee. He is Langford's representative on the West Shore Parks and Recreation Commission. Councillor Sahlstrom will be Acting Mayor from January 1st, 2014 to June 30th, 2014.

 

Lanny Seaton Lanny Seaton has been a resident of Langford and an active member in local sports, youth organizations and community groups for over 40 years. Councillor Seaton has proudly served as a Langford Councillor since 1996. He is Chair of the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Beautification Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Protective Services Standing Committee. Councillor Seaton is Langford's representative for the West Shore Parks and Recreation Commission, Greater Victoria Public Library, the Island Corridor Foundation and sits on the CRD Core Area Liquid Waste Management Committee, the Planning, Transportation and Protective Services Committee, the Regional Parks Committee and the Capital Region Housing Corporation Board. Councillor Seaton will be Acting Mayor from July 1st, 2013 to December 31st.

Winnie Sifert has been active in politics in Langford for over 25 years. Prior to being elected to the first council in Langford, Councillor Sifert was on the Advisory Planning Commission for six years. She was elected to council when Langford was first incorporated in 1992. She is Chair of the Transportation & Public Works Standing Committee. She is also Langford's representative for the West Shore Parks and Recreation Commission, West Shore Chamber of Commerce, Regional Water Supply Commission, Juan de Fuca Water Distribution Commission. In the past Councillor Sifert sat on the Economic Development Committee, Committee for the Royal Museum and and three various incorporation committees.  Councillor Sifert will be Acting Mayor from January 1st, 2013 to June 30th, 2013.

Lillian Szpak

Lillian Szpak has been actively involved in our beautiful and growing community since moving to Langford from Lahr, Germany in 1993. She is proud to be serving her fourth consecutive term on Langford Council. Councillor Szpak is the Chair of the Protective Services Committee, Vice Chair of the Transportation and Public Works Committee. She is also Langford's representative for the Capital Regional Services Telecommunications Board (CREST), Juan de Fuca Water Commission, Regional Water Supply Commission, the Municipal Committee on Disability Issues, an alternate on the Capital Region Housing Corporation Board. Councillor Szpak will be Acting Mayor from July 1st, 2012 to December 31st, 2012.

 

Roger Wade sits as Vice-Chair on the Administration and Finance Committee and Vice Chair on the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Beautification Committee. Councillor Wade will be Acting Mayor from July 1st, 2014 to December 31st, 2014.
