Muscular Dystrophy Canada
Langford Fire Rescue became involved with Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) in the 1970s and have participated in the annual Boot Drive along with other area fire departments ever since.
Currently, we are part of the Lower Island Group, consisting of seventeen departments from Sidney to Sooke, that meet at least twice a year to plan events and share ideas.
The Boot Drive is the fundraising season when firefighters from all over lower Vancouver Island stand in front of malls, liquor stores and other public places to accept donations from the more than willing and ever enthusiastic public. This is the main fundraising event for the group, generating upwards of $60,000 to fight muscular dystrophy and fund MDC programs.
In Langford, our department does more than just the Boot Drive to generate donations. Here are some of the things we have done and continue to do to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada:
- Dunk Tank Rentals
- Car Washes
- Karaoke Night
- Hot Dog sales
- Jump-a-thon (Parachuting)
- 5km Run / Walk
- Harley Davidson Motorcycle Draw
Between the money we raise at the Boot Drive and our other events, Langford donates over $10,000 per year. We could not make these donations without the hard work of our Volunteer Firefighters and the generosity of the public.Go to Top
