Langford Archway
Last Updated Date: March 2, 2011
"Welcome to Goldstream Village," reads Langford's new archway across Goldstream Avenue. The archway, the City's latest installation in Langford's Downtown core, also thanks those heading East for visiting Langford.
The archway spans Goldstream Avenue between Langford Centre and the Goldstream Station residential/retail complex. The grid iron architecture invokes the train heritage of E & N Railway and the refurbished trestles of the Galloping Goose Trail, both of which run through Langford. The arch itself is painted in Langford's signature burgundy and proudly flies the City flag above the stout wooden pillars. The signs are green and gold: two colours that pay tribute to Langford's lush surroundings including Goldstream Provincial Park, and the adventurous goldpanning history of the community.
The archway is only part of larger endeavour envisioned by Mayor and Council since Langford was incorporated in 1992. For nearly two decades, the City of Langford has sought to revitalize and beautify the Downtown core. The archway adds to the European, pedestrian-friendly environment of Downtown already established by the Musical Fountain and boulevard improvements that incorporate traffic calming measures.
